If you are an attorney with expertise in an area of law and are willing to assist less experienced attorneys with the pro bono cases they take through VLSP (through primarily telephone advice), we urge you to complete an on-line Volunteer Application and indicate that you are willing to serve an a Mentor Attorney.

Attorneys need not have experience in those areas of civil law that VLSP refers cases in order to be of help. Less experienced attorneys may request the assignment of a mentor attorney to answer questions and provide guidance during a pro bono case taken through VLSP.

In addition, VLSP provides inexpensive MCLE training in those areas of law that reflect the most common types of cases we take. Please check the Calendar section to see when the next trainings will be offered.

If you are an existing volunteer, and have not completed an on-line application since September 2, 2003, please fill out a new on-line Volunteer Application so that we can update our records.

Volunteer attorneys are covered by VLSP’s malpractice insurance policy for cases or clinic work they perform through VLSP. Volunteers will be contacted regarding only those types of cases they have indicated a willingness to accept. Of course, volunteers are always free to turn down a case if their schedules do not permit them to take a particular case when they are contacted, or if for any other reason the volunteer chooses not to accept that case.

VLSP’s office space is available to volunteers for client meetings and depositions, and we have paralegal, interpreter, notary and investigator’s pro bono services available. We can also assist you in obtaining reimbursement of any deposition reporter/transcript expenses you may incur during a pro bono case.
