The Voluntary Legal Services Program of Northern California has been contracted by the Sacramento County Superior Court to operate a Self-Help Center at the downtown Sacramento courthouse. The Self-Help Center provides basic services to help navigate the civil courts, including quick assistance and workshops on the preparation of complaints, answers, case management statements, some motions, as well as other general inquiries regarding civil court cases in Sacramento County.
The Self-Help Center provides limited assistance to any self-represented litigant in the Sacramento County Superior Court regardless of income or other financial criteria. The Center's staff and volunteers do not represent clients in court proceedings, nor are they intended to act as a replacement for representation by an attorney. Instead, visitors to the Center will be provided with general assistance designed to help the self-represented litigant overcome the procedural hurdles in correctly completing court forms and other documents that often prevent unassisted litigants from having their matters heard by the court.
It is located at the downtown courthouse at 720 Ninth Street, and will assist persons Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (times are subject to change). Persons will be assisted on a first-come-first-served basis. We will try to answer simple questions immediately, while persons requiring more detailed help will be set for an appointment later that day or scheduled for a future workshop.
